Law360 (Aug 24, 2021, 5:55 p.m. EDT) – An investor in the now defunct cannabis company SMRB LLC has asked a Washington federal judge to sanction the company owner for his “frivolous” libel case, saying it was filed in retaliation for the investor’s cooperation with authorities over the owner’s alleged securities fraud.

Investor Joseph Samec said in Monday’s motion that owner Robert Russell’s libel suit was only filed to harass Samec for cooperating with state and federal authorities, and that Russell falsely claimed that Samec l ‘had defamed.
