WINDSOR — Four people have been charged and $4.4 million worth of marijuana seized after officers raided an unlicensed pot grow operation near Leamington, provincial police say.

Essex OPP officers, members of the Joint Forces Provincial Cannabis Enforcement Team and Leamington By-law officers searched a location in the 100 block of Mersea Road 5 on Thursday and seized 7 600 potted plants “in various stages of growth”, more than 225 kilograms of processed marijuana and growing material, police said.
Police estimate the total value of the plants and products seized at $4,418,000.
Two Scarborough residents, ages 58 and 64, a 58-year-old Aurora resident and a 66-year-old Markham resident face charges of growing, propagating or harvesting more than four cannabis plants, in contravention of the Cannabis Act of Canada.
Under Canadian law, it is illegal for a person to possess more than four cannabis plants that are not in bud or in flower, unless authorized to do so.
