A raid on what Medford Police described as a ‘large-scale illegal marijuana cultivation’ at Eagle Point also resulted in the arrest of a 55-year-old man with a rap sheet that includes more than a dozen of felony convictions and over five dozen arrests. .

Joel Daniel Dixon, 55, was arrested Thursday morning for manufacturing, delivering and possessing methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine following a raid by the Jackson County Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team and the Medford area drug and gang task force on “small compound” at 14828 Agate Road in Eagle Point, according to a statement released Thursday by Medford Police and documents filed in circuit court Friday of Jackson County.

The search warrants followed a five-month narcotics investigation into drug sales in Rogue Valley, according to Medford Police, who are one of the agencies involved in the Narcotics Task Force.

On the Eagle Point property, investigators reportedly found more than four pounds of methamphetamine, nearly half a pound of cocaine, a quarter of a pound of heroin, a gun, a motorcycle reported stolen in Los Angeles, and $ 7,700 in cash, according to a filed affidavit. by the police.

Details of the alleged “large-scale illegal cultivation of marijuana” were still under investigation on Friday.

Police say Dixon is well known to MADGE detectives.

Court records show he was among several suspects arrested in a MADGE raid on May 12, 2020 in the 3100 block of Griffin Creek Road in Medford.

According to a 2020 bulletin for the Oregon-Idaho chapter of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program – of which MADGE is a member – MADGE detectives found 3.84 pounds of methamphetamine, 0.12 pounds of heroin, 15 oxycodone tablets and five Xanax tablets in the raid that also led to the arrests of suspects Jeffrey Gordon Cole and judge Colleen Austin.

Court records show Dixon was released on his own engagement in July of last year in the drug case. The conditions of his provisional release did not provide for any possession of firearms or intoxicants.

A settlement conference is scheduled for July 27 in the case surrounding the 2020 arrest, and a pre-trial conference is scheduled for August 6.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office had yet to file charges regarding Dixon’s arrest Thursday at Eagle Point.

In March 2015, Dixon was sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison for a felon in possession of a munitions conviction surrounding a 2013 arrest in which a Jackson County probation officer and deputies from the Office of the Jackson County Sheriff found a Colt .380 magazine loaded with five cartridges. , as well as a gallon of marijuana buds and a leather satchel containing 1-1 / 4 pounds of packaged methamphetamine for sale, according to an archived press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

In 2015, Dixon’s criminal history included more than 62 arrests, according to the statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. These arrests resulted in 14 felony convictions – for felonies that included attempting to escape the police, manufacturing methamphetamine, providing contraband, first-degree theft and felony in possession of a firearm – and 22 convictions for offense.

Dixon was sentenced to 50 months in the case the following year due to a 2015 United States Supreme Court ruling in the Johnson v. United States case, which determined that the Sentencing Act reinforced was a violation of due process rights because the law was unnecessarily vague. .

Dixon’s only arrests since 2015 are the May 2020 drug arrest and Thursday’s Eagle Point arrest.
