Authorities discover two illegal marijuana crops on public land valued at more than $ 2 million

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – In September, a multi-agency investigation took place to eliminate two illicit crops of marijuana on public lands in Nevada.

In Lincoln County, investigators dismantled a grow site that housed approximately 20,000 marijuana plants.

In Nye County, investigators dismantled and eradicated a crop that contained around 7,850 marijuana plants.

To put the number of plants discovered into perspective, an average mature marijuana plant will produce about a pound of usable marijuana, giving the marijuana produced at both sites an estimated market value of $ 2.8 million.

Investigators were also able to locate and dismantle several camping structures, as well as illegally barred springs, and about three miles of PVC tubing used for water distribution.

The investigation also uncovered an illegal and toxic pesticide called Carbofuran.

Partner agencies involved in the discovery include the Nevada National Guard Counter Drug, US Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Nye County Sheriff’s Office, and Drug Enforcement Administration Assistance Las Vegas. for the Lincoln County operation.
